Model United Nations(MUN)

Birla Public School Doha Qatar has a vision to nurture a Global citizenry on the principles of intellectual and aesthetic excellence in the service of humanity and common good on the path of truth and enlightenment with a mission to provide students with opportunities to display knowledge, skills, competency, discipline and values to create a society that is self – reliant in political, economic, industrial, commercial and social life.

To instill the values and to enable students to think critically, explore, analyse and arrive at solutions and answers to problems in real life based on acquired and improved mathematical , scientific, linguistic skills emotional intelligence and abilities; to be bold and confident ; to demonstrate matured social skills, to practice abiding moral qualities; to accept and respect differences in appearances, intellectual capacity, gender, race, language , religion and ethnicity the school has various clubs and one such club is the MUN.

Model United Nations (MUN), which is a simulation of the United Nations, gives students from Birla Public School the opportunity to develop their communication skills, their responsibility, life skills and their knowledge of current affairs.

Students attend local conferences, where they participate in the role play alongside their peers from other Qatar schools, as well as internationally, on a regular basis. MUN conferences are generally two or four days in length, featuring heated debates and interesting discussions, as well as providing countless opportunities for socializing. The most common form of participation is normally in the role of a delegate; the task for these students is to represent a country within their committee. Speaking in debates is not for the promotion of their own personal views but to represent the foreign policy of their delegation. The participants are expected to research the issues before attending any conference in order to make the debates more engaging and thus find meaningful solutions to real world problems.

The MUN club offers a wide range of other opportunities for those taking part besides those of a delegate. Since MUN naturally fosters a sense of responsibility and organization, there are clear progression paths for those students who are committed to the club. In their final years, experienced students may be given the opportunity to become part of the conference’s executive team, and help plan the proceedings. The emphasis is always that students take the lead in organizing the conference rather than staff. The ultimate aim of Model United Nations is to harness the skill of those taking part in terms of student leadership, co-operation, and public speaking. It gives the future leaders of tomorrow the chance to find their voice now.

The School paves way to attend Asia’s one of the largest leadership conference Qatar Leadership Conference QLC which requires registration in the month of April-May with a registration fee decided by the QLC team.
